The invention relates to a process for determining the quantity of heat exchanged per unit of time in a heat exchanger by a flowing heating or cooling medium. For this purpose, use is made of a measuring heat exchanger of small heat exchanging capacity, in which the medium flowing to the heat exchanger and the medium flowing out from the heat exchanger are brought into heat exchange with each other, the temperature difference occurring in the flowing-in and/or flowing-out medium being measured. In this way, the mass rate of the flowing heating or cooling medium can be determined by measuring just the temperature.
