The invention describes an improved artificial intraocular lens for surgical implantation as substitute for a damaged natural lens in an eye of a patient which is otherwise functioning; the improvement consists in that the lens is designed such that it has a minimum diameter of about 2 mm and a maximum diameter of about 5 mm before the implantation, which is less than the diameter of the natural lens, especially of a dry, rigid, hydrophilic material which can be hydrated by the natural fluid of the eye in order to expand after implantation and form an optically correct lens having an appropriate diameter of about 6 mm to 14 mm, so that implantation of the lens is possible by incision over a minimum length corresponding to the diameter of the dry lens, the vision of the patient being restored with minimum trauma. <IMAGE> |
