A device for the contact-free measurement of the locally rapidly reducing temperature of a material jet (4) emerging from a smelting device (2) is described. In this case, optical waveguides (6) are arranged in the vicinity of the material jet (4) emerging from the smelting device (2), in the movement direction (A) of the material jet (4), the front ends (8) of which optical waveguides (6) are spaced apart from one another, and the rear ends (10) of which optical waveguides (6) are connected to photoelectric components (12) in order to convert the intensity of the radiation emitted by the material jet (4) into electrical signals.
