A safety device having two valves 3, 4 (which are controllable and are connected in series on the water side) in a domestic apparatus has a control device which controls the water supply to a tank 1, as well as an emptying pump 26 which is connected to the tank 1, as a function of the water level in said tank 1, via a pressure sensor 9 or by means of a sensor 10 in a catchment trough 21. In order in this case to achieve high functional reliability using simple means, both valves are constructed as solenoid valves 3, 4 whose magnet coils 6 are electrically connected in parallel and are jointly controlled, together with the emptying pump 26, by the pressure sensor 9 and the sensor 10. <IMAGE>
