A heating chamber for running synthetic yarns has an essentially vertical yarn channel and a preheating channel arranged parallel to the latter. Between the yarn channel and the preheating channel there is located an overflow channel. In order to remove the condensate of the saturated steam reliably, there is provided at the lower end region of the preheating channel an overflow gap which is variable between a minimum cross-section and a maximum cross-section. The variation preferably takes place as a function of the precipitation of condensate. In a preferred version, a float body (6) is provided for this purpose. <IMAGE>
