A channelled woven belt for use in the manufacture of a tire, as well as a method of making the belt and the belted tire. A woven belt in accordance with the invention comprises a plurality of tapes each comprising an elongated strip of elastomeric material reinforced with a plurality of reinforcing cords. The cords extend lengthwise in the elongate strip, and each strip has a plurality of channels extending laterally with respect to the strip to permit flow of air from one edge of the strip to the other. When the strips are interwoven and laid surface to surface, a plurality of interstices are formed between the tapes, and the channels permit air to flow out of the woven belt during tire manufacture. |
