PURPOSE:To prevent any capacity decrease of a battery during the time of low temperatures by using the heat of a fuel cell to warm the battery. CONSTITUTION:A battery 1 is warmed by using the heat of a fuel cell 2. For example, when the fuel cell 2 starts to generate electric power, the temperature of a liquid electrolyte 3 is increased by both heat produced by chemical reaction performed in the electrolyte 3 and Joule heat produced due to the resistance of the electrolyte 3 or the contact resistance between the plate and the current collector. The heated electrolyte 3 then passes through a heat exchange tube 11 due to natural convection to radiate heat through fins 11a thereby warming the interior of a container 1a. As the result, the temperature of the electrolyte 3 is increased and its reaction is accelerated even at low temperatures. Accordingly, any decrease in the electromotive force of the battery 1 (its capacity decrease) is prevented, thereby securing its good starting performance. |
