<p>PURPOSE:To easily manufacture a large picture plane image display device by arranging many MIS transistor (TR) which are nonlinear switches to incorporate on a glass plate manufactured in a differenct process, and thus obtaining an active matrix. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd light-transmissive insulating plate having the 2nd transparent electrode 23 adhered onto one main surface, e.g. glass plate 24 and a glass plate 11 which has semiconductor switches embedded in the surface insulating layer 14 are put opposite each other by using a proper seal plate by the same technique with the assembly of a normal liquid-crystal cell. Liquid crystal 25 is charged in their gap to form a cell, thus completing the device for image display. Then, polarizing plates 26 and 27 are stuck on a couple of glass substrates according to the material of the liquid crystal 25 to obtain the liquid- crystal display device. An oriented film and an orientation treatment are necessary on transparent electrodes 7 and 23 so as to orient liquid crystal molecules. Consequently, nonlinear switches having uniform characteristics are arranged without reference to the size of picture plane of the image display device.</p> |
