PURPOSE:To perform optimum focusing operation by providing an operation control means which inhibits operation in AF mode when the AF mode is selected and permits the operation in selected AF of FA mode in other cases. CONSTITUTION:A start signal for AF operation is only inputted and then an AF microcomputer MC2 operates independently without reference to a control microcomputer MC1 to make an operation check and an adjustment only by an automatic focus adjustment part. An AF microcomputer MC2 is started only in FA mode, but the AF microcomputer is also started whenever the control microcomputer MC1 is started instead and only lens driving may not be done only when a start is made in AF mode with a shutter button. Then the operation for proper focusing can be carried out according to a combination of either of a switch associated with a shutter button and a switch for exposure control data setting provided separately so that it is operated irrelevantly to said switch is operated and either of the AF and FA mode is selected.
