The conveyor has an inclined vibratory surface on elastic mountings, together with a series of buffer rods (30) above this surface (24). These are mounted clear of each other and not coupled together, and are inclined to the surface, roughly in a comb pattern. The rods can be mounted so as to vibrate with the surface, or independently of it, and each canbe at an acute angle to it, the rods being parallel to each other. The angle between rods and surface can be adjustable, and the surface can be actuated by a single vibrator (28).
