The method allows a treatment (cutting, welding, alloying or surface hardening, etc.) to be carried out on a metal piece (1) with the addition of an added material (4) and with the use of a power laser (7). The metal piece (1) is heated locally and the added material (4) is brought into a plastic or liquid state by means of laser radiation (2) so as to fuse it with the piece (1). The added material (4) used is a powder.
