In manufacturing a sheet of wood, especially a table top, by bonding together blocks or strips so that the blocks or strips 1 in the finished sheet which present more than two visible surfaces, are made from high-grade wood, whilst blocks or strips 2, which only present two visible surfaces are made from chipboard or similar material with veneers of the type of timber in question on the two aforementioned surfaces, the use of large areas of veneered chipboard gives a sheet which even the expert cannot distinguish from a sheet that is manufactured solely from high-grade wood and hence much more expensive. <IMAGE>
