PURPOSE:To secure such a structure as being rigid enough against breakdown, by forming a circumferential surface groove in the specified form, consisting of a release groove and a locking groove where an engaging projection of a manual operating member is engaged, in a rotative member to be turned round by a key, in case of two-motion operating type steering lock unit. CONSTITUTION:This steering lock unit is provided with a manual operating member 12 capable of sliding motion in a direction parallel with an axis of a rotative member 5 turning round together with a key K. The rotative member 5 is also provided with a circumferential surface groove consisting of a locking groove 15 and a release groove 16 to be formed in adjoining with each other in an axial direction, and makes this groove engage a side engaging projection 12a projectingly installed in one side of the manual operating member 12. The release groove 16 extends as far as an OFF position short of a lock position from a start position of the key K, while the locking groove 15 extends as far as the lock position little to a position at the start side from a stopper surface 16a. In addition, at the other end part of the locking groove 15, there is provided with an inclined plane 18 which engages the projection 12a when the rotative member 15 is turned round and makes it move to the release groove 16. |
