A single phase compsn. comprising a miscible blend of non cross-linked polymers of a water insoluble, hydrophobic polymer (I) as 2-95 pts. by wt. and correspondingly, 98-2 pts. by wt. of a hydrophilic polymer (II). The compsn. is capable of absorbing at least 50% by wt. of water to form a hydrated material. It may be formed into solid articles and is optically clear. - Specifically (I) is claimed as a copolymer of bisphenol A/epichlorohydrin, disulphonyl chloride/diphenylether/biphenyl, bisphenol A/dichlorodiphenylsulphone, hexafluoropropene/ vinylidene fluoride, and PVC/vinyl acetate, polymethylmethacrylate, and polymers of cellulose acetate and polycarbonate. (II) is claimed as a polymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone, N,N-dimethylacrylamide, polyvinyl methyl ether, N-vinylacetamide. The compsn. is pref. 10-30 pts. wt. wt. of (I) and 90-70 pts. by wt. of (II),and more pref. 10-20 of (I) and 90-80 of (II). |
