Soft tissue paper in the range 3.624 to 9.06 kg/m2 is produced continuously from pulp dried on a 'Yankee drier' (RTM-friction cylinder type) using a two stage creping process: in the first stage, the paper is disengaged by a blade from the surface of the drier cylinder while at a dryness of 93.6 to 97%, and then transferred to a further roll under haul-off conditions which reduce the root mean draw ratio, i.e. (longitudinal draw ratio x lateral draw ratio) 1/2 to less than 9%, pref. 6% or less. For the second stage, adhesion to the roll is enhanced by application of an adhesive dressing to the roll. The paper is then disengaged from the roll by a further blade while at a dryness of at least 93%.
