The process comprises dissolving of haloalkycarboxylic acid in water with rise in temp. to 40 deg.C, for addn. of imidazolinic reagent of formula (II) with stirring and rise in temp. to 50 deg.C. Then alkaline hydroxide is added in aq. soln. form at constant temp. and pH, with subsequent raising of the temp. to 80-90 deg.C for two hrs. to give cpd. of formula (I). R1 is a (6-20)C alkyl chain and R2 is an alkyl radical with or without hydroxide, amine, etc. functional gps. The R1 must be based on fatty acid or deriv. used in the prepn. of the imidazolinic reagent.
