Tin recovery from low-grade material

Sn is recovered from oxide (-sulphide) material-concentrate of low Sn content by: decomposing by melting with KOH in inert gas or air; water leaching; and recovering Sn electrolytically. - Leaching is carried out at a temp. of at least 283 deg.K in water or aq. alkali. Electrolysis is carried out at a cathode current density of 50-500 A/sq.m. KOH is recovered for re-use from the final electrolysis soln. by concn. and dehydration.
