<p>Connecting rod having essentially an I-profile cross-section is control cooled ir the shaft region by locating cooling ele ent between the shanks that join the two bearing eyes. After solidification the elements are removed. - Pref. the outer surfaces of the shaft are connected to cool moulds or plates. The cooling elements join the two shanks along their whole length, the thickness of the cooling wall being dependent on the measurements of the connecting rod. The cooling wall can be divided into two with also a gap in the area of the larger eye. After removal of the cooling elements the rod is strengthened by electron beam bombardment. The smaller eye is cast with an oval outer contour.</p> |
