<p>A mount (4) houses a piezo-electric transducers, (1) within one sidewall of a parallel-sided gap (a), provided to accommodate a tip of soft living tissue (6). A second and deeper cavity in the opposing sidewall of the gap (a) houses an insert (3) containing a second piezo-electric transducer (2). The insert (3) can be adjusted by the screw (5) to vary the distance (d) between the parallel faces of the two transducers (1,2). Intimate contact between the tissue (6) and the transducers can be ensured by reducing the distance (d). - In operation the opposing side surfaces (7,8) of the transducers serve as the input/output electrodes connecting via coaxial cables (9,10) to a frequency generator and to amplifier, demodulator, and signal analyser.</p> |
