PURPOSE:To stabilize an operation and to improve operting efficiency by providing wear-resistant plates in the parts of copper plates and backup frame which contact with belts and oscillating a side dam in the transverse direction of a billet. CONSTITUTION:An oscillating dam 5 is formed of divided copper plates 6, the backup frame 7 having high rigidity and a bolt 8 for coupling the same. The wear-resistant plates 10 made of a new ceramic material, etc. are embedded to the top and bottm surfaces of the plates 6 and the frame 7 which slide with the belts 1, 2. The operation is started by pouring a molten metal to a casting machine and at the same time an oscillation generator 15 is driven to oscillate the dam 5 in the transverse direction of the billet. The wear of the plates 6 is decreased and the stable operation with less breakout is made possible by the above-mentioned method. The operating efficiency of the casting machine is thus improved. |
