The invention relates to a method for transporting hydrocarbons, in particular petroleum and natural gas, under pressure in a pipeline. The essence of the method consists in connecting the pressure-raising devices used to produced pressure to a public electricity distribution network, in recording the variations of the load of the public electricity distribution network and in supplying the pressure-raising devices with electrical energy during the periods when the load is less than the peak load. A compression station is also provided, essentially comprising two groups of pressure-raising devices driven by motor machines supplied with electrical energy and by removing some of the hydrocarbons conveyed. The method provided and the compression station allow joint operation of the public electricity distribution network and the units along the pipeline which consume energy. <IMAGE>
