The invention relates to a method and a device for wrapping slabs or bars of chocolate with a packaging film, especially with metal foil, which are characterised in that the packaging film, which is continuously fed in the form of a web, is longitudinally deformed to form a tubular web of wrapping material which is U-shaped in cross-section and is open on one side, and the slabs, which arrive on a feeding mechanism and are situated one behind the other to form a row, are successively inserted in and deposited on the open tubular web of wrapping material at intervals in such a way that a laterally projecting edge of wrapping material remains along the row of items to be packaged, the wrapping then being sealed along the said edge and in the region between the successive items to be packaged, and the strand of items to be packaged which is formed in this way being divided into individual items to be packaged. The device implementing the method uses the web of wrapping material as a transport element for the items to be packaged, a tubular web former being arranged downstream of the supply roller of the said web of wrapping material, which former causes the web to enter the packaging line in the form of a tubular web which is open on one side and is U-shaped in cross-section. The feeding mechanism for the items to be packaged extends sufficiently far into the tubular web inlet to ensure that the items to be packaged are successively deposited at a distance from one another in the tubular web and are conveyed further by the latter, folding and closing elements being provided along the packaging line for bending double, folding and connecting (bonding, welding, sealing) the longitudinal edges of the tubular web situated one on top of the other, as well as sealing devices for sealing the tubular web material in an airtight manner between the successive items to be packaged and cutting devices for severing the finished packages from the strand of items to be packaged. |
