A free-wheeling clutch (3, 4, 5, 6 & 7) is provided for a boat auxiliary drive propeller to reduce propeller drag, e.g. when sailing. The clutch is conveniently arranged about the propeller shaft outboard of the reverse drive gear for the propeller and preferably in the hub of the propeller. The clutch comprises a drum (7) mounting the propeller blades (8), a sleeve (3) non-rotatably attached to the propeller shaft (1) and provided with peripheral projections (4) which, during driving via the propeller shaft, force out dogs (5) mounted on the sleeve (3) into frictional driving engagement with the drum (7). <IMAGE> |
