Tyre pressure monitor using resistive transducer element - consisting of carbon paper between membrane plate and fixed contact

A vehicle tyre pressure measurement and indication arrangement has a sensor installed in the wheel rim - like the usual valve. It has a dashboard indicator and a - pref. inductive electrical or electronic - signal transfer system. It can indicate slow pressure rise or fall as with pressure increases caused by tyre overheating. A pressure-dependent signal is generated using a non-metallic resistive element between a contact moving under variation and a fixed contact in the sensor. The resistance varies with pressure and the resistive element may consist of paper contg. carbon or tinted paper. The moving contact is a circular metal plate with an O-ring seal forming a measurement chamber in a widened section of the sensor body.
