PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high selectivity, by reacting an acylalkylphthalene compound with a peroxide to give an acyloxyalkylnaphthalene compound, and oxidizing the resultant acyloxyalkylnaphthalene compound with molecular oxygen in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An acylalkylnaphthalene compound expressed by formula I (R1 is 1-3C alkyl; R2 is H or 1-3C alkyl) is reacted with a peroxide to give a compound expressed by formula II, which is then oxidized with molecular oxygen in the presence of a bromine compound-cobalt compound or bromine compound- cobalt compound-manganese compound catalyst in an organic solvent, e.g. formic aicd to give the aimed acyloxynaphthoic acid. Before oxidizing the compound expressed by formula II, recrystallization from acetic anhydride can be carried out under heating to improve the reaction conversion to 100mol%. Thus, the aimed compound can be obtained in high selectivity without forming isomers as a by-product. |
