PURPOSE:To reduce variation of brightness regardless of increase or decrease of the number of lighted dots even if an LED is made long, by treating a common electrode on the back face of the LED so as to make the bottom face rough. CONSTITUTION:On an N type GaAs substrate 1, an N type transforming layer 2 and an N type GaAs0.6P0.4 3 are sequentially grown. Next, a selective zinc- diffused region 4 is formed, individual electrode 5 are mounted and light emitting sections 6 are formed. The LED is made long because of alignment of the light emitting sections 6 on a line. On the back face of the LED, a common electrode 7 containing gold mainly is formed, whose bottom face is made rough. Thus, the LED for an optical printer having a small variation of brightness regardless of increase or decrease of the lighted dot number of the light emitting sections can be provided. |
