Prepn. of a molasses-based animal feed block involves mixing together molasses, nutritive ingredients, 5-10% P source, 2-4% ferrous sulphate and 3.5-15% finely ground MgO of surface area over 11 sq. metres per g. The mixing is under high speed shearing action to give a mixt. that solidifies to form a hard, weather resistant block. The block is hard and is prepd. without use of an emulsifying agent. It may be used as a carrier for medicaments such as anthelmintics.
