NEW MATERIAL:3'-Fluoro-3'-deoxykanamycin A of formula I or its salt. USE:An antibacterial agent against kanamycin-sensitive bacteria and kanamycin- resistant bacterial. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared e.g. by condensing the 6-azido-2,4-di-O-protected-3,6-dideoxy-3-fluoro-alpha-D-gluco-pyranosyl bromide of formula II (A is hydroxyl-protecting group, preferably benzyl) with the 4-OH group of the 6-O-(2-O-protected-3-N-protected-3-deoxy-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl)-1,3-bis- N-protected-2-deoxystreptamine of formula III (Y is amino-protecting group; B is univalent hydroxyl-protecting group or two B together form a bivalent hydroxyl- protecting group), and reducing the azide group to amino group.
