DESULPHURIZATION OF FERROUS MELTS

A method of desulphurizing a ferreous melt comprises injecting into the melt lime containing agents having pores which are blocked with molten inorganic material, as distinct from the lime. This gives smooth surfaced particles with a low tendency to absorb moisture. Pref., the particles have a dia. of 0.1-1.0 mm and are injected at a rate of at least 30 kg/min. The free flowing powder, which can contain additives with the lime, are more easily injected into the melt and thus give a more efficient treatment of the melt.
