PURPOSE:To shorten a contour tracking processing time by regarding the address of a specific picture element as the address of a candidate for the start point of contour tracking when a partial pattern obtained by segmenting an input pattern conforms with a reference pattern. CONSTITUTION:A telecamera 1 reads a character, etc., to obtain the input pattern through a binary coding circuit 2. A partial pattern segmenting part 3 segments the input pattern into partial patterns composed of specific numbers of picture elements longitudinally and laterally successively at the video rate and an input pattern storage part 7 writes them in an image memory 8. Those partial patterns are collated with the reference pattern stored in a reference pattern setting part 10. When a conforming pattern is obtained, an address storage control part 11 stores the address of the video memory 8 where center picture element data on the partial pattern is stored in a memory 12 as the candidate address of the starting point of contour tracking. A contour tracking part 14 tracks each contour of the input pattern stored in the image memory 8 on the basis of the address of the candidate for the starting point of contour tracking. |
