The invention relates to a process for producing structured latex particles having a core region and a shell region, with the said latex particles being film- forming at room temperature, by adjusting the feed rates of the shell monomers such that, when the weight fraction of the shell increases, the feed rate of an acrylate and/or a monovinyl monomer or a precipitated core monomer consisting of aromatic monovinyl monomer decreases, resulting in a shell region coming to encapsulate the core region. The invention also relates to structured latex particles which have been produced by the process. Films consisting of the structured latex particle in question, in which the shell monomer consists of methyl methacrylate or a similar monomer having a high Tg, have good film strength. Films consisting of the structured latex in question, in which the shell monomer consists of butyl acrylate or similar monomers having water-repelling properties, additionally have improved corrosion resistance properties.
