PURPOSE:To expand effectively a tracking range and to process the complex picture constitution of animation with simple operation by automatically tracking a subject included in a photographing picture or a specific area in the picture, and when the subject is located on the border of the area, adjusting an optical system on a comparatively short focal distance. CONSTITUTION:When the subject is moved into a waiting position TFa, a range finding field is moved to a tracking field position TFb, i.e. the position of the subject, as shown on FFb in Fig. b and the focal distance of the zoom lens is adjusted. The focal distance is the longest at the position in Fig. b and then becomes shorter in accordance with the left movement of the subject. When the tracking field reaches the end part of a limit area by moving the subject as shown on TFf in Fig. f, the focal distance of a zoom lens is adjusted so as to be shorter, i.e. its picture angle is expanded up to a wide end, and the subject is regarded as if it is fixed on the position as shown in Fig. g, so that the tracking range is expanded effectively. |
