The fuel combustion system is used for heating working media. It passes a mixture of fuel and air through a fluidised-bed catalyst to give complete oxidation. - A stoichiometric mixture of fuel and air is passed through, the temp. of the catalyst being kept between 670 and 1070K by altering the consumption of the working medium (5). The catalyst can be in the form of spherical granules of dia. between 0.04 and 0.2cm., with a density of 1 to 2 g. per cu.cm. The working medium may consist of solid granules of less than 0.04 cm dia.
