PURPOSE:To improve the detecting speed of optical fibers by using only line information based upon the reference positioning points of the optical fibers out of a two-dimensional picture. CONSTITUTION:When the optical fibers 3, 3' are illuminated from the direction of an objective lens 8, the two-dimensional (y, z) picture of the optical fibers 3, 3' and its end surface images 9, 9' is formed on the detecting surface 12 of a CCD image sensor 11 and outputted as a video signal from a control unit 13 and the video signal is digitized by an A/D conversion part 14. Only the brightness information on detecting lines oriented to three directions is selected out of the video signal by a comparison part 15 and temporally stored in a frame buffer 16. The selected information is encoded into a binarization signal by a slicing part 17 and the binarization signal is sent to a computer 19 to find out a difference between the binarization signal and a reference position, so that the shifted distances DELTAx-DELTAz of the opposed optical fibers can be found out. The existence of a bubble at a connection point can be detected by setting up one or plural detecting lines 2. |
