A press for the compression of material includes a mobile pressing piston (3) in a pressing chamber (2), and a feeder passage (5), which is designed to receive the material which is to be pressed and which via a feeder opening (7) communicates with the pressing chamber; the feeder passage (5) has a section (1) with a greater cross sectional area than the feeder opening (7), and at least one closing device (8) is movable between the feeder opening's (7) closing and opening positions; connected to the feeder passage's above mentioned section (18), there is a device (19) for pre-pressing of material. The pre-pressing device is made up of a second pressing piston (19) which can move to and fro at a significantly higher level than the basically horizontal table (22) situated at the feeder opening (7); the closing device (8) is situated at a level under the said table (22), and the second pressing piston (19) can be positioned to give maximum space in the section (18) and move to prepress the material when the closing device (8) is in its closing position for the feeder opening, thus preventing the material falling into the pressing chamber.<IMAGE> |
