PURPOSE:To improve steering stability by using the rotating speed of a non- driving wheel as the car speed data determining the optimum gear stage when the rotating speed of a driving wheel becomes a preset rotating speed or higher in relation to that of the non-driving wheel. CONSTITUTION:The first car speed sensor 1 is provided on a driving wheel 2 and the second car speed sensor 3 is provided on a non-driving wheel 4, outputs from both sensors 1, 3 are fed to an electronic control device P, and when the rotating speed of the driving wheel 2 becomes a preset rotating speed or higher in relation to that of the non-driving wheel 4, the rotating speed of the non- driving wheel 4 is used as the car speed data determining the optimum gear stage. Thereby, the gear stage can be prevented from being shifted up by mistake when the driving wheel 3 slips on a slippery road, thus the car body can be prevented from slipping further and making its attitude unstable.
