PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of NOX and soot and to save energy by a method wherein steam is sprayed on a combustion flame of a fuel oil. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection nozzle 29 for injecting the fuel oil in an atomized condition and steam injecting nozzles 32a-32b for injecting steam in an atomized condition on the combustion flame of the atomized fuel oil from the nozzle 29 are proprovided. When the atomized steam is injected on the flame immediately after the ignition of the burner, fine particles of the unburned heavy oil adhere to the particles of the atomized steam in the form of an oil film. Further, the cubic volume of the steam having the oil film adhered thereto expands rapidly to rupture due to the heat of the combustion flame so that the re- atomization of the oil film adhered to the steam progresses. As a consequence, the surface area of contact of the oil with air is increased without increasing the supply quantity of air to thereby enable the oil to be burned completedly and at the same time, it is possible to burn the oil at a uniform temperature without the formation of a local high temperature combustion section. |
