摘要 PURPOSE:To maintain the specified position where solidification begins and to prevent the generation of shell fracture, breakout, etc. by mounting a heat insulating ring to the boundary between a water-cooled casting mold and an intermediate vessel and executing casting. CONSTITUTION:The intermediate vessel 2 having the area wider than the sectional area of the water-cooled casting mold 1 is disposed in the upper part of said mold. The mold 1 and the vessel 2 are integrally connected and the heat insulating ring 3 is disposed in the upper part of the mold 1. A molten steel is supplied through an immersion nozzle 4 into the vessel 2 and the solidification of the molten steel begins under the ring 3. The outside shell 5 solidified in the mold 1 is continuously drawn and cast by pinch rolls while the friction with the mold 1 is decreased by the forward and backward movement of the mold 1 in the casting direction. If the ring 3 is disposed to the mold in the above-mentioned manner, the progression of the solidification upper than the ring 3 is stopped and the molten steel is uniformly solidified in the circumferential direction of the casting mold.
