The present invention relates to a covering for a tubular profile having a control function, permitting effective and comfortable manual gripping. It includes a rib 2 adhesively bonded to a tube 1 which is covered with a sheath 3 of flexible alveolate (foamed) synthetic material which is itself covered with a fabric 4; the combination is immovably held on the tube 2 by adhesive bonding. Among the more interesting applications of the invention, mention may be made of: the coverings for the arms of sailboard booms (wish-bones), for water-skiing tow-bars or for the steering (handle) bars of hang-gliders. <IMAGE>
