Underframe ensuring for the human body a normal lying position with constant and effective support of the spine yielding a correct distribution of the body weight over its whole length, with sufficient flexibility to respond to the changes in position of the person. It is composed of a rectangular frame 1 whose subdivision in length and height according to a junction plane 2 determines a lower frame 1a and an upper frame 1b, the latter being divided into four elements: a central fixed element 1b, a head element 1c and two foot elements 1d and 1e articulated by means of hinges 4. Each of these elements comprise on the internal face of its struts a groove 5 of square or rectangular cross-section into which fits the end of wooden slats 6 shaped in the form of arches of a cross-section and of a spacing determined as a function of the weight and of the morphology of the user, the said section and spacing being different according to the part of the body they are intended to support. The spacing of the slats is ensured by means of wedge stays 7 capable of being adjusted in the grooves 5. <IMAGE>
