PURPOSE:To enhance capacity for selectively separating CO from a CO-containing gaseous mixture, by forming a carbon monoxide adsorbent from mordenite type zeolite wherein 10-100% of a cation is replaced with a lithium ion. CONSTITUTION:A mordenite powder or mordenite molded body is contacted with an aqueous solution of lithium salt such as lithium chloride, lithium carbonate or lithium salfate at 40-100 deg.C and lithium exchange reaction is performed so as to bring a lithium ion exchange ratio to 10-100% to prepare a carbon monoxide adsorbent comprising mordenite type seolite. As mordenite, synthetic mordenite, especially, one with a silica ratio of 10-15 is pref. When the mordenite molded body was subjected to ion exchange, the ion exchanged one is dried and subsequently baked to remove the greater part of moisture thereof to obtain the adsorbent. In order to obtain a high exchange ratio, it is desirable to repeatedly perform ion exchange. |
