PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in a proper catalytic activity from the beginning of the reaction in a stable quality free from impurities without requiring purification through distillation, by reducing catalytically nitrobenzene by a method to use a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:In producing aniline by reducing catalytically nitrobenzene in the presence of a catalyst, a catalyst containing one which is recovered during shutdown and stored in a nitrogen atmosphere is used as a catalyst which is used during starting up. In this method, problems to cause a large amount of impurities resulting from too high activity of catalyst when a new catalyst is used when the operation is started again, are eliminated. Pd, Pd-platinum, etc. may be cited as the catalyst for the reaction. A hydrogenation reaction of nitrobenzene in a liquid phase can be carried out continuously by this method. |
