The invention relates to a cooking vessel which can be heated using fossil fuel, in particular for use in large kitchens, in which the shell containing the filling is surrounded by a duplicator which is filled up to a predetermined level with easily evaporating liquid, advantageously water. The heat-receiving surface of the duplicator on the heating space side is enlarged by a heat exchanger fitted with heating tubes. The degree of efficiency in respect of the energy consumption of the cooking vessel is improved to a significant extent by the invention. The design is compatible with that of electrically heated and steam-heated vessels, thus also providing the possibility of simultaneous use of different types of fuel.
