The invention relates to the production of a broach or milling cutter for tooth-root channels for use for boring or milling out a tooth-root channel. The invention is directed, in particular, at an apparatus for the rotary deformation of a broach or milling-cutter blank, which apparatus is characterised by a chuck for clamping a blank with a triangular or quadrilateral cross-section and by a clamp with a number of clamping jaws which can be brought under pressure into contact with the sides of the blank, the chuck and the clamp being movable away from one another while being rotated relative to one another and the clamping jaws of the clamp being arranged alternately and being movable forwards and backwards as a function of the cross-sectional dimensions of the blank, and each clamping jaw being supported with one side face on a part of the front face of an adjacent clamping jaw, allowing the internal cross-section of the clamp to be adjusted as a function of the cross-sectional dimensions or of a taper of the blank.
