A hopper (18) for shavings has a cuboid container (24), over whose rectangular bottom (30) a transporting rake (32) can be displaced by means of a hydraulic cylinder (34). The transporting rake (32) bears a plurality of transporting lamellae (62-66) which can be pivoted perpendicular to the direction of displacement of the transporting rake and, during a displacement stroke, move shavings to a discharge conveyor (102) which runs transversely to the direction of displacement of the transporting rake, whereas it can move through the shavings situated in the hopper during the return stroke without appreciable transporting of material. <IMAGE>
