PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition containing a specific 5-membered triterpene compound, exhibiting specific antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans, and effective to prevent dental caries. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition contains the compound of formula (R1 is CH3, CHO or CH2O; R2 and R3 are CH3 or COOH; R4 is H, CH3, COOH or COOCH3; R5 and R6 are H, CH3 or OH; A is two H or O), e.g. oleanolic acid, ursonic acid, etc. as essential component. The compound of formula has specific antibacterial activity against S.Mutans and/or an activity to inhibit the adhesion of insoluble glucan produced by S.Mutans and its extoenzyme to the surface of the tooth. The use of a compound having both activities is preferable. The content of the compound in the composition is preferably >=0.001%(W/V), especially >=0.01%(W/V).
