<p>PURPOSE:To enhance desulfurization efficiency, in desulfurization of gas containing sulfur oxide, by converting hardly soluble magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide or magnesium carbonate to soluble magnesium bicarbonate. CONSTITUTION:A slurry of magnesium hydroxide or magnesium carbonate is subjected to bicarbonate forming treatment to form a solution containing magnesium bicarbonate and this solution is reacted with gas containing sulfur oxide to remove sulfur oxide in said gas as a slurry containing magnesium sulfite while carbon dioxide formed by said reaction is used in the aforementioned bicarbonate forming treatment. For example, the solution containing magnesium bicarbonate flowed down by a nozzle 17 is desulfurized in a desulfurization reaction zone 5 and the slurry flowed down from a nozzle 2 is converted to a magnesium bicarbonate-containing slurry by CO2 in the gas in an bicarbonate forming reaction zone 4.</p> |
