In order to determine the force-transmitting load in hinge joints of machine elements, the axle bolt is replaced by a measurement shaft (4) which is provided with cross-sectional flats (6). Deformations are measured on said flats by means of strain gauges (21-28). The invention is suitable particularly for testing dashpots, as are used for nuclear power stations. <IMAGE>
