In the device suitable for the use of so-called water-based paints or another, similarly conductive coating material, the electric field charging the sprayed particles is generated between the earthed spraying rim (6) of a bell-type atomiser (1) and preferably three needle-shaped outer electrodes (20) which are distributed with radial clearance around the bell-type atomiser and are at high voltage. The outer housing (7) of the bell-type atomiser consists of insulating plastic. In this case, an optimum field distribution can be achieved without the necessity of having to insulate the bell-type atomiser (1) and the paint feed system with respect to earth. <IMAGE>
