The invention relates to a brake for the trolley of a drawing machine, consisting of brake shoes which can be pressed from two sides against a stationary part of the drawing machine by means of an articulated lever arrangement which can be actuated by an actuating lever. In order to provide a brake which, in a simple manner, permits both manual and automatic locking of the trolley of a drawing machine, it is proposed that articulated lever arrangements (5, 6; 7, 8), each accommodating a brake shoe (4), be provided in an arrangement of mirror symmetry relative to a plane passing through the point (1) of articulation of the actuating lever (2) on the trolley (3), one lever (6, 8) of each of these arrangements being articulated, for the joint actuation of the brake shoes (4), on the actuating lever (2) and the other lever (5, 7) thereof being articulated on the trolley (3), and that, in addition, electrically actuatable devices (9, 10) acting upon the articulated lever arrangements (5, 6; 7, 8) be provided between the levers (5, 7), articulated in each case on the trolley (3), and the actuating lever (2). <IMAGE>
